WARANGAL: A day before chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is to visit Gangadevipally to launch the Grama Jyoti programme, the village on Sunday was made off limits to friends and relatives of its residents.
Top district police officials visited Gangadevipally multiple times to oversee the security arrangements for the chief minister’s Monday visit and asked the gram panchayat to spread the word that only residents will be allowed to remain in the village.
The idea is to prevent the grama sabha, which KCR will address, from turning into a public meeting, a police official said.
Chandrasekhar Rao is scheduled to arrive at the village at 11 am. After a walk through, he will participate in the grama sabha and launch the Grama Jyoti programme. He is also expected to plant a sapling as part of the Harita Haram programme. Later in the afternoon, he is scheduled to visit Rampur and Medipally villages in Nallabelli mandal of Narsampet assembly constituency and attend a joint grama sabha of the two villages.
Though originally the chief minister was also scheduled stay in Warangal district on Tuesday, officials said that the second day’s programmes have been cancelled. On Tuesday, the chief minister was to inaugurate the regional science centre at Hunter Road in Hanamkonda, visit the Warangal Fort, unveil Prof Jayashankar’s statue at Deshaipet in Warangal town and address a public meeting at the CKM College grounds.
